SABMiller
With output of more than 239 million hectolitres of beer, SABMiller is the second largest brewing company in the world. SABMiller was formed in 2002 after the then SAB (South African Breweries bought a majority holding in the largest American brewery, Miller Brewing Company.
From modest beginnings in 1895, when immigrants from England, Ireland, Germany and Holland founded a small brewery in near Johannesburg (500 hectolitres annually) to satisfy the needs of thirsty gold miners, through expansion in Africa, Europe, China, India and America to become the second largest brewing company in the world. Such has been the journey of today's SABMiller. Developments in world brewing don't allow even such a large company to rest on its laurels. It has constantly to analyse opportunities for growth, seek out alliances or further capacity to buy. And it has to earn money, not disappoint shareholders, and do business in a sensible and healthy way.
The company's strategic vision is to be the most admired brewing company in the world. This means being the most attractive for investors, the most prestigious as an employer and also the company with the best social reputation - as a responsible producer of alcoholic beverages and as a good neighbour everywhere that our companies do business.
