Plzeňský Prazdroj and Sustainable Development

More than 175 years ago, we gave the world the first Pilsner lager – a bottom-fermented, triple-mashed beer, matured in a lager cellar. This is the legacy we continue to build on. At the same time, it is a commitment which we take seriously. We are well aware that as it is our right to benefit from our brewing heritage, it is also our obligation to foster it and hand it over to next generations – be it historical brewery buildings, crafts and documents, or the traditional brewing procedures and quality local ingredients. This is why sustainable development is a natural part of our business.

Foreword by the Managing Director

Dear Visitor,

It is my pleasure to introduce you to this website, which describes how Plzeňský Prazdroj is performing against its sustainable development goals.

Long gone are the days when firms only cared about making profit from their business. Industrial growth and increase in consumption have changed the environment. People’s needs, the communities they form and society as a whole are changing.

It therefore comes as a natural role of the business to consider the environmental and social impacts of our behaviour and actions on nature and society – on our well-being, health, social relationships and the atmosphere we live in.

At Plzeňský Prazdroj, we focus on the following seven priorities:

  1. Supporting local agriculture and Czech suppliers
  2. Reducing the consumption of water, energy and carbon footprint of our manufacturing and distribution processes
  3. Caring for our employees and their long-term development
  4. Supporting customers of our products and the Czech beer culture
  5. Acting as patrons for various groups of citizens and the regions we operate in
  6. Preserving our heritage
  7. As alcoholic beverage producers, we particularly support responsible drinking

We see these priorities as a natural part of our strategy. In the ways we work, we ensure that ‘ecological’ also means ‘economical’. Reductions in our water and energy demand are a good example. Our support of suppliers helps us ensure that we make quality products from quality ingredients. Our support of our people returns in their loyalty to the company.  We promote responsible drinking of our products to help make the consumer population healthier and more health conscious – we want Czechs to drink better, not more.

The highlights of our achievements in 2017 are continued reductions of water and energy demand in our manufacturing processes, carbon (CO2) emissions reduction, support of our suppliers and customers as well as communities near and dear to us.

Since last year, Plzeňský Prazdroj has had new owners – the Asahi Group, who put exceptional emphasis on sustainable development. Hence our plans and commitments in this particular field are and will be ambitious. Informing you how we are progressing in our ambitions is the purpose of this website.
