The certificate is signed by those who are at the very birth of the beer, our brewmasters.
The assessment is made in annual cycles and the certificate is granted for one calendar year depending on its results. The assessment is made by experts in the given field, graduates of a special Bartenders´ Camp, which focuses on beer tapping and tasting. Each expert is also trained by a team of our trade brewmasters.

The procedure for awarding the Brewers´ Star
- Ask a Plzeňský Prazdroj Trade Development Specialist to initiate the certification process.
- The basic technical parameters will be measured.
- This is followed by an assessment of the quality of the served beer.
- In case you meet all the conditions, you will be awarded the Brewers´ Star certificate, which will be handed over by a representative of Plzeňský Prazdroj´s sales department.
- If we find any shortcomings preventing the Brewers´ Star certificate from being awarded to your place, you will receive a detailed description of the reasons together with instructions on how to remedy the situation. You can request a re-assessment after a minimum of 3 months. Inspections in certified pubs and restaurants will take place at least once a year. However, they can take place at any time in order to check the observance of standards and the quality of the served beer. In case of a serious breach of standards stated in the Terms & Conditions of the Brewers´ Star Certification, or if the pub/restaurant changes its keeper/owner, the place will lose its Brewers´ Star certificate. Any further questions will be answered by a Plzeňský Prazdroj Trade Development Specialist or Technical Service employee.

What is the Brewers´ Star?
The Brewers’ Star is a unique certificate given to pubs/restaurants for their strict observance of the principles and meeting the requirements for quality draft beer care. This certificate is awarded by Plzeňský Prazdroj exclusively to its customers. It offers trustworthy beer quality certification, which guarantees the best beer experience for consumers and also serves to navigate consumers to the best pubs/restaurants.
What is assessed by the certificate?
First, we look at the technical parameters: whether the beer is stored properly, whether the right propellant gas is used, the frequency and quality of the beer pipe sanitation, the cleanliness of the tap equipment and how the beer glassware is washed. Then, we focus on how the beer is served and also whether the bartender observes the recommended length of time for dispensing beer from a tapped keg or tank.
Who awards the certificate and who evaluates pubs/restaurant?
The certificate is awarded by Plzeňský Prazdroj, or by a person authorized by Plzeňský Prazdroj. Inspections of the technical parameters are carried out by teams of Plzeňský Prazdroj inspectors. The quality of the draft beer is evaluated by graduates of a special Bartenders´ Camp, an intensive training program focused on beer tapping and tasting. Each expert is also trained by a team of Plzeňský Prazdroj’s trade brewmasters.
How can I get the Brewers´ Star certificate?
Contact your sales representative and ask him or her to nominate your pub for the Brewers’ Star certification. Note: your nomination must be secured by the end of June so that your pub/restaurant can undergo the entire certification process and receive the Brewers’ Star certificate for the following year.

Our goal is to acknowledge the best pub and restaurant keepers and show people where they can get the best beer, beer with the Brewers’ Star.
What do I need to do to receive the certificate?
The basic condition is to meet the required technical parameters. These are described in detail in the Terms & Conditions of the Brewers´ Star Certification on this page. Make sure that your place really meets these conditions and our inspectors will check it. Afterwards, you will be visited by our evaluators, who will focus on the quality of the draft beer. If you pass, you will receive the certificate for a period of one year.
How long does the certification take?
The certification takes place throughout the year. First, the quality and cleanliness of the tap equipment is evaluated. This is followed by beer tasting checks, which evaluate the way the beer is served, its appearance and taste.
Can I get the Brewers´ Star if I do not have Plzeňský Prazdroj beer brands on tap?
The Brewers’ Star certificate is awarded only to those pubs/restaurants that sell either keg or tank beer from Plzeňský Prazdroj’s breweries, i.e., the beer brands Pilsner Urquell, Gambrinus, Excelent, Velkopopovický Kozel, Radegast, Birell, and beer from the Brewers’ Choice program.
How long is the certificate valid for?
The certificate is always given for a period of one calendar year, i.e., from 1 January to 31 December.
When can I apply for the Brewers´ Star?
At any time during the year. We recommend that you initiate the certification process at least six months before the end of the year, which increases the chances of your place being certified for the following year.
Can I re-apply if I was already denied the certificate once or several times before?
Yes, we will gladly inspect your place again. In the event of unsuccessful certification, our experts will give you a report with a list of specific recommendations. These will help you meet the conditions during the next certification procedure.
Can I apply for the certificate again after a year?
Yes. We will even visit these pubs and restaurants on our own initiative.
Are there any fees for the application and certification?
The Brewers’ Star application and certification are free of charge.
If I am successful, can I get more than one star?
The certification system includes only one star. Receiving the star means recognition of the highest quality draft beer.
What if I lose the star?
If your outlet is denied the Brewers’ Star certificate, our experts will tell you precisely what you need to improve in order to get the star back.
Why was the Brewers´ Star introduced? Prazdroj already had its “clean pipes” certification.
The previous certification focused solely on meeting the technical parameters related to beer quality. It contributed to a significant improvement in the care devoted to beer pipes, which has a major impact on the quality of draft beer. The new certification goes beyond the scope of the original certification and is more comprehensive – we monitor not only the technical parameters, but also how beer is served at the pub/restaurant, as well as its resulting properties and taste.
What happened to the original system of the “clean pipes” certification?
Plzeňský Prazdroj has terminated this certification system.
If I have the previous certification, will I be automatically awarded the Brewers´ Star certificate?
The Brewers’ Star is a brand new and independent system of evaluating the quality of draft beer. It covers a wider range of criteria and is more comprehensive than the previous certification. Pubs and restaurants need to apply for the Brewers’ Star, it will not be automatically given to those who held the previous certificate from the “clean pipes” program, which has been discontinued.
