Beer, Fun, and Music, but Mainly Many Novelties – That is Pilsner Fest 2012

170 taps are ready for the visitors of the festival. Unfiltered Pilsner Urquell will be available for 32,- CZK (about 1.60 USD), Gambrinus Original 10° with its new, fuller taste will cost 25,- CZK (1.25 USD), and Gambrinus with Lime & Elderberry, or Sharp Lemon, will be available for 30,- CZK (about 1.50 USD). The selection will be broadened by top-fermented wheat beer Fénix (Phoenix) with orange and coriander flavour, and nonalcoholic Birell Lime and Raspberry. The fans of malt beverage Frisco will also have the choice of its four varieties.

This year as well, fans will be challenged to break last year’s record of collective toasts on Friday, at 7:30 pm.; 5,493 people must lift their glasses in order to beat the old record.

The music selection includes such names as David Koller, Kamil Střihavka, J.A.R., Vypsaná Fixa, and Charlie Straight. „One of the novelties of this charitable event is that we have included some important musical personalities. You can support Centre Umbrella at the website auction where you can bid on, for example, the guitars of Jiří Schmitzer and Michal Pavlíček, the drumsticks of David Koller, and many other valuable artefacts from other bands. You can even place your bid during the Pilsner Fest since the whole area will have Wi–Fi coverage,“ Vladimír Jurina of Plzeňský Prazdroj mentions, driving attention to the charitable event.

The accompanying programme will offer many novelties. To commemorate their 170th anniversary, visitors may take in „The Road of the History of Pilsner Urquell,“ a  unique exhibition in four tents, offering the authentic environment of Pilsen Urquell pubs from different periods of its history. Tours of visitors’ trails Pilsner Urquell and Gambrinus are a traditional must. A  team of master coopers will demonstrate how to make a wooden barrel, and the Pilsner Urquell Master Bartender tent will display the art of beer drafting, featuring the contestants from this prestigious competition.

For this year, the Gambrinus brand has prepared several novelties. You can taste, draught, and learn about the production and history of the beer during the tour under the supervision of master brewers. After the successful completion of the tour, you will receive a special pin and the title „Gambrinus Quality Sampler.“ Hardcore fans must not miss the G-zone with its interactive programme. They can have fun with the climbing can, play water mini-soccer, and enjoy the rodeo on a can. Visitors may relax and refresh themselves with some nicely chilled Gambrinus brand novelties in the Relax Zone.

The Boulevard will rock again
The double stage will offer enough space to the „Urquell of Talents“ competition finalists. Next to the participants in the „music band“ category, there will be performances of finalists in the „dance group“ category. The comics Iva Pazderkova, Miloš Knor, and Danielem Čech from Komici s.r.o. (Comics Ltd) – popularised by the HBO TV show „Na stojáka“ – will also be there. „Komici s.r.o. represent the best of the best from „Na stojáka“ TV show. The show is primarily connected with bars, clubs, and small theatre spaces, however, the relaxed atmosphere of Pilsner Fest will definitely bring a fresh perspective and the opportunity to improvise,“ Miloš Knor mentions the advantages of the Pilsner Fest show.

„U Prazdroje“ street will be traditionally transformed into a relax zone for pedestrians only. The street will be closed for traffic from the „U Prazdroje – Sirková“ intersection to the „U Prazdroje – Lobezská“ intersection in both directions from 9:00 pm, Friday, August 31, to 5:00 am, Sunday, September 2, 2012.

The championship of holding double beer–jugs will bring the spirit of fair play into the mix. Next to last year’s record–holder, Pilsen actor Martin Stránský is also challenging Aleš Háma, and Libor Bouček will participate. Thus, they all will have a chance to test their capabilities right in front of the audience, and try to beat Miroslav Duda‘s record last year of 10 minutes, 21 seconds. Those interested will have a chance to collect a  signature form our successful Olympic athletes from London, Miroslava Knapkova, Adéla Sýkorova, David Svoboda, and Petr Koukal.

The new interactive map of Pilsner Fest will be available to help visitors navigate the festivities. The 3D map will be available online on Facebook and other social media. It accurately displays the entire area of the event with programmes on each individual stage, a visitors’ tour menu, accompanying programmes, and info booths.

The programme will conclude Saturday night at 11:00 pm with traditional fireworks, the climax of the Pilsner Fest festivities.
