Popular Music from the Czech Music Scene Will Be the Sound of Summer in Prazdroj
Fans will decide which bands will advance in a competition of new talents

9.7.2013

Last year, the Summer in Prazdroj concerts attracted nearly 19,000 people. This Summer too, thousands of people can expect the best of Czech music in the courtyard of the brewery. Staples of the Czech music scene such as Burma Jones, YoYo band, Odyssea, and the concluding concert of Kamil Střihavka, are assurances of good times during the Thursday concerts. This year’s concert series will take place every Thursday from July 11 to August 29, always starting at 7:00 p.m. in the courtyard of Pilsen brewery. Entrance is traditionally free and weather will not cancel the programme. For more information visit: www.prazdrojvisit.cz or Facebook.

Fans will enjoy the Urquell of Talents competition, which will offer duels as part of the summer concert programme. „The audience can expect fascinating matches of new talents and the exciting experience of public voting that will send the winner to the finals. Once again, fans can elect the winner from lesser known bands. The very best will play for its fans on stage at this year’s October Fest on October 5,“ said Urquell of Talents jury member and Pilsner Fest MC Ondřej Havlík, a.k.a. En.dru, who took part in the pre-selection of the 14 most interesting bands who will advanced to the 7 summer duels. Pavel Anděl is still the honorary chairman and guarantor of the competition.

In the first duel, on July 11, the foursome from Nýrsko called Chai (playing at 7:00 p.m.) will challenge Prague’s Prowizorium (playing at 8:00 p.m.) with their melodic pop-rock. Fans can vote for their favourite band via coupons during the event, or electronically on the Pilsner Fest page (www.pilsnerfest.cz) until the following Tuesday. The winners of all seven duels will match their skills during public voting on the Pilsner Fest web page from September 2 to 16, 2013. The absolute winner of Urquell of Talents 2013 will be announced on September 18, and the band will receive free beer for a year as well as an honorarium of 20.000 CZK (about 1,000.00 USD) to perform at Pilsner Fest on Saturday, October 5.

The music programme of Summer in Prazdroj will be enriched by qualification rounds for the Czech Championship in holding of double steins (with arms extended) in categories for men and women. The winner of each round will receive a carton – 24 0,5l cans of Pilsner Urquell or Gambrinus beer – and will advance directly to the semifinals at Pilsner Fest, where they will try to beat the current record of 11 minutes and 21 seconds.

Other opportunities for visitors will include the novelty competition Grab as many beers as you can, in which the participant who grabs the most beer cans will take that same number of cans home with them. At the beginning of each concert, those interested in learning the correct method to draw and serve beer will have a chance to do so at the Gambrinus School of Beer Care under the guidance of an experienced Pilsen brew-master direct from Gambrinus brewery. Thursday evenings are going to bring lots of fun, tons of Pilsner Urquell and Gambrinus beer, and grilled specialities.

*Pilsner Fest is a traditional celebration of Pilsen beer that will take place in the courtyard of the Pilsen brewery on October 5 this year. You can find more information about the festival of music and Pilsen Urquell beer at www.pilsnerfest.cz.
