A bountiful advent at the brewery and at the Beer Museum

Christmas tradition at the Beer Museum, December 12th–13th
During the third advent weekend, one weekend before Christmas, visitors of the Beer Museum can always try out various Christmas traditions between 10 am and 5 pm; they can take home souvenirs, which they themselves made in the holiday workshop, and taste Christmas specialties. “We want to continue with the tradition of holiday activities in the Beer Museum and we also want to start a tradition of typical Christmas activities at the brewery. In the workshop, one can see and try out old Czech traditions and customs, such as decorating gingerbread, lead casting, making candles out of bee’s wax or making Christmas decorations from wood and from paper. Beer bottlers will also show their work,” says Tomáš Raboch from Plzeňský Prazdroj.

Those who go through the whole workshop and take part in all of the activities can look forward to a gift from Plzeňský Prazdroj. At 11 am and at 3 pm will be the tasting of Christmas specialties. Other food and Christmas drinks can be also purchased. The symbolic entrance fee is 25 Czech crowns ($1.45 US). Children who are less than 140 cm tall can come free of charge. You can come to the museum from the city centre in a horse-drawn carriage, free of charge.

Christmas Olympics in the brewery’s courtyard, December 19th
Those who would like to forget about holiday stress can spend the last Saturday before Christmas at the brewery, where from 10 am until 4 pm you can find a variety of fun Christmas-inspired competitions (e.g. run over hurdles with a Christmas tree). Prizes with beer are prepared for the fittest. One can, even on this day, take the horse-drawn carriage for free, and take a ride from the city centre to the brewery. Activities will be crowned by a concert by the Plzeňský chamber ensemble Ko.Mar and will end with announcing of winners of the year’s worth of beer competition.

Competition for the year’s worth of Pilsner Urquell beer!
Every person over 18 years of age who goes through the whole Plzeňský Prazdroj exhibition, the Beer Museum or the Plzeň Historical Underground, or visits restaurants Na Spilce or Na Parkánu (where he/she spends at least 300 Czech crowns, $17.35 US) or buys souvenirs in the Plzeňský Prazdroj souvenir shops (at least 300 Czech crowns,$17.35 US), can on December 19th, until 1 pm, take part in the competition and can guess how many lights are on the big Christmas tree which decorates the brewery’s courtyard. The main prize, a year’s worth of Pilsner Urquell beer, will be given to the competitor who comes closest to the correct number of lights. The next 30 closest guesses will also receive great prizes.

A detailed schedule of activities and complete rules of the competition are at www.prazdroj.cz
