Prague’s cellar Na Pláni received the thousandth certificate for great care for beer quality

Beer is at its best the moment it leaves the brewery’s gates. After that, it takes a lot of effort to maintain its quality: adequate temperature of warehoused beer, correct push gas, correctly set pressure in the taps, clean and cool glasses, and ideal beer temperature, correct pouring of beer, regular cleaning of the beer pipes and correct serving of the beer.

“If the bartender takes care of the beer within the established parameters, customers will be served beer of excellent quality. And the cellar in Na Pláni is very successful at it,” said business brewer of Plzeňský Prazdroj Pavel Průcha, as he presented the restaurant’s owner, Jan Matuštík, with the certificate with the magic number “1000.”

“We serve high quality beer by Plzeňský Prazdroj not only at Na Pláni, but also in three other pubs in Prague, Bredovský dvůr, Antal and Kobyla, which also received certificates for care for beer quality, and they maintain the standard imposed by the certificate. The symbolic thousand certificate makes us happy, but the systematic and long lasting care for beer in all our restaurants has a lot more significance,” said Jan Matuštík when accepting the certificate.

“I love to go and have Pilsner beer, but only at places where they take care of it. I  got used to drinking Pilsner at U Zlatého Tygra and that was during communism, when they took great care of their beer. Nowadays, I travel a  lot around the country and I am always very pleased when I find a  restaurant where they cherish the Pilsner lager and they serve it in its best condition possible, at places like Konvikt in the Old Town, and, as I found out today, at na Pláni,” confirmed David Suchařípa.

The first historic certificate upon which Czech beer drinkers could judge quality was given out in 1999 to the legendary cellar in the Old Town, U Zlatého Tygra, which is more importantly able maintain these standards through yearly recertification. The owner of U Zlatého Tygra, Mr. Karel Hulata, therefore opened a wooden barrel full of Pilsner Urquell together with Pavel Průcha and Jan Matuštík and then passed the baton to “Pláni” with one thousand written on the certificate.

Pavel Průcha together with both restaurateurs then christened a new instructional DVD by Plzeňský Prazdroj, which will help bartenders and restaurant owners to correctly take care of Czech beer.
