Plzensky Prazdroj backs 14 projects voted for by people of the region

At the celebratory evening held on the
premises of the Pilsen brewery, representatives of Plzensky Prazdroj
handed over sponsorship grants amounting to five million crowns for
fourteen projects proposed by non-profit organisations, health and
cultural institutions and sporting associations as part of the Citizen´s
Choice program. The company’s partner in bringing this ambitious program
to fruition has from the beginning been the newspaper Plzensky denik.

For two months, the people of Pilsen were able to
access information in the Plzensky denik newspaper on those projects that
had been recommended by non-profit organisations, sporting associations
and health and cultural institutions and which had then passed through the
selection process of the Board of Representatives. The Board comprises the
representatives of local administrative bodies and important regional
institutions. Its task was to assemble a list of projects – this year
broken down into specific categories (education, culture, sport, health
and social care, environment) – and evaluate them according to the
stipulated criteria. The projects are intended in a creative way to
contribute to the prosperity of the town and region, to improve the
environment or to resolve pressing social problems. One of the conditions
of selection is that the projects supported should be implemented within
one year. Their progress during the course of that year will be monitored
by the partner media organisation.

Of the total of 53 projects proposed, the Board
of Representatives selected nineteen, which were presented to the public
on the pages of the Plzensky denik and subsequently submitted to citizens
for their vote.

In the middle of September, a special supplement
of the Plzensky denik was published which set out all 19 projects in
detail and also contained a voting coupon. After checking the returned
coupons, the Board of Representatives selected 14 projects.

Representatives of the organisations that
proposed the selected projects received their grants from the hands of
Plzensky Prazdroj representatives at today’s celebratory meeting in
Plzensky Prazdroj. Michal Kacena, Plzensky Prazdroj corporate affairs
manager
, said: “This year we repeated the new, transparent system of
allocating grants that worked so well last year. The direct involvement of
the public in the discussion and decision-making process is one of the
chief objectives of the Citizen’s Choice program. We highly value people’s
interest in public events and believe that this will grow even further as
they come to see the positive effects on their own environment. We would
like to congratulate those organisations whose projects won the favour of
the public and look forward to the program’s successful continuation next
year.”
