Plzensky Prazdroj, a. s. emphasises the
various sensory qualities of beers produced. When performing regular
checks on beer quality, the company does not rely solely on laboratory
testing. “We have a good team of tasters, yet we want to keep making
progress and that is why we are now preparing genuinely sophisticated
training for these specialists,” stated Quality Assurance Manager Jiri
Famera.

Before the end of the first quarter, a new
tasting room with fourteen cubicles and adequate general facilities will
be built in the Pilsen brewery. “The equipment corresponds to SAB`s
standards and has world-class parameters. Therefore, it will be used for
tasting beers from all of SAB`s acquisitions in Europe,“ said Jiri Famera.

The team of tasters has a long-standing tradition
in Plzensky Prazdroj, a.s. They played an important role in 1992 when the
transfer of Pilsner Urquell`s fermentation and maturation from the
traditional cellars to cylindrical-conical tanks was being prepared. At
that time, retired, experienced brewers were also invited as respected
members of the team in an advisory capacity while discussing the decisions
regarding the introduction of the new technology. Only after the
fermentation and maturation processes had been harmonised to such an
extent that the tasters were unable to distinguish between beer produced
in the old and new ways, was the new technology put into operation.
