“Our breweries produce traditional Czech beers and a returnable glass bottle has been time-proven as the most suitable package for our brands. Recently, though, the PET bottle has found its way to consumers within the Economy segment. So we also want our portfolio to offer these consumers their Economy brand in this type of package.
But we’ll continue to prefer returnable glass bottles which are an ideal container for beer and are clearly part of the Czech beer culture,” says Vladimir Jurina, Brand PR Manager of Plzensky Prazdroj.
All traditional brands of Plzensky Prazdroj – Pilsner Urquell, Gambrinus, Velkopopovicky Kozel, Radegast and Radegast Birell – are packaged for the off-trade segment into traditional glass bottles only.
Czech beer drinkers have been used to returnable glass bottles for a long time. According to the current survey by the Simply5 agency, conducted to map out the perception of beer quality in various types of packaging, the plastic PET bottle is perceived as an occasional container for cheap beer. In response to this, Plzensky Prazdroj is expanding its range of package and offering its Economy brands Klasik and Primus also in PET bottles.
