Garáž from Pardubice served 400 beers during the introduction of Czech hockey players

18.2.2010 Gambrinus

The pub has become a bastion for sport fans during this year’s Olympic Games. Even the opening hours have been adjusted to the Games. Usually they close at 1 am, but when the Czech hockey team plays, Garáž will open an hour before the game begins and close an hour after it ends. This way, anybody can cheer alongside the fans with Gambrinus on tap.

The first game of the Czech representation on Thursday was at 6 am and a pub filled with fans was watching. In Garáž, in less than 4 hours about 400 beers were served. A breakfast menu was prepared: goulash soup, goulash and cold cuts. According to those who were present, the atmosphere was amazing, where regulars were making wagers amongst themselves and guessing how the Czech representation would do.

“We decided to offer sport fans and especially hockey fans from Pardubice a chance to collectively cheer for our hockey players. Even in spite of unpleasant early morning hours, when the games are broadcasted, we at Garáž, are open,” says Josef Losser, owner of Garáž Restaurant.

Fans from Pardubice already have their next chance to cheer together this Saturday at 1:30 am, which is a more acceptable hour than during the game with Slovakia.

Certificate of excellent care for beer
Recently, Garáž was given an award from Plzeňský Prazdroj for exemplary care for beer, which they have been providing nonstop for ten years. Whoever comes to Garáž and wants to, for example, watch the Olympic Games, can be certain that he/she is being served good beer.

“When at the turn of 1999 and 2000 Plzeňský Prazdroj launched a project of certification of pubs for good sanitation and care for beer, we applied for it immediately. Caring about quality of Gambrinus beer, which we serve on tap, has been paying off. Our regulars as well as random customers appreciate the very good taste of the beer. It wouldn’t be possible without great emphasis on attitude with which our bartenders and servers serve our customers,” says Josef Losser. Proof of a professional staff is the fact that one of Garáž’s bartender’s has been working there since it opened.

“Beer is the best the moment it is leaving the brewery’s gates. For it not to lose quality during transportation, warehousing, and service, it requires a lot of care. And here at Garáž, they have been spoiling our beer for more than ten years. Then they were among the first who received the certificate, and have now been given even more: a red seal. It is a reward to Garáž for its best care for beer lovers and a confirmation that the quality of beer on tap here is excellent,” says senior business brewer from Plzeňský Prazdroj, Václav Berka.
