During big sports eventssuch as the beginning World Football Championship, the short-term consumption of beer often increases in the Czech Republic. This fact results from marketing research that is regularly carried out by the leading domestic brewing company Plzensky Prazdroj. In the long term monitored statistics showed an increase in average consumption of several thousand hectolitres per week, which enables the domestic breweries to increase their weekly output approximately by 2 percent.

According to the long term statistics* carried out by Plzensky Prazdroj, the average weekly consumption of beer in the Czech Republic increases roughly by 5500 hectolitres during most big sports feasts, such as the Olympic games or international football or hockey championships.

According to the statistics of Czech Beer and Malt Association, the total output of domestic breweries reached 19 million hectolitres in 2005. Almost 16 million hectolitres were produced for the Czech market, with an average production of 300 000 hectolitres per week. The average weekly increase in consumption during outstanding sports feast can bring an almost 2% increase in domestic output of beer.

During this year’s football championship, that will last four weeks, the Czech breweries have a chance to produce and sell extra tens of thousands of hectolitres.
